My #1 bit of word of mouth marketing advice is always: Put a tell-a-friend form on every page of your web site.
You have a real live person, who wants to refer you to a friend. Make it easy. It’s a magic moment in marketing.
Why?
- That referral gets you a real lead, worth at least as much as leads pay to get from other marketing
- The lead probably converts at a much higher rate, because it comes with a personal endorsement
- It’s free
Here’s a great example of how easy it is. Try out this instant tell-a-friend form from Eco-Safe. The green message (email instead of printing) is nice.
(Thanks for the tip, Krishna De)

Hi Andy, A great idea however I might be mssing something as the form you’ve shown doesnt have an option to “email a friend”

Whoa! You’re totally right! That’ll teach me to write blog posts at 6 am. But it’s still a cool application. Maybe the Eco-Safe people will contact me and we’ll work together to create an awesome tell-a-friend tool.
lol, ainst that always the way

That would be cool as it looks like a great little addition to any page.
Lets hope they are monitoring net for mention of their firm

I’d like to see a round-up of these “tell a friend” services. One feature I feel is REALLY important to have is stats-tracking, so you can see how many people actually use it — and further refine its presentation and placement in the future.
Right now, I’m using AddThis @ http://addthis.com/ , and they have some nice analytics.
I think one of the challenges is the wording used. Many people many not realise that “add this” gives them the opportunity to share the page/site amongst their friends.

Greetings from Eco-Safe, thanks for your mention and kind words about what we do. We are always looking for feedback and new ideas, having a tell-a-friend, or email-a-friend is on our list. You could of course put in your friends email currently, but we plan on having a revised version to allow for more customization to fit each site uniquely. We’ve got lots of things brewing and in development, so thanks for your support.
