The little things matter

I was in a $700 Fairmont hotel room in Miami (paid for by someone else). It was nice.

But what really turned me on was the fantastic coffee with a real French coffee press.

Any hotel could improve the coffee machine and make every guest happier.  It wouldn’t cost more than $50. Why don’t they?

It’s the little things that make people happy. It’s the little things that start word of mouth.

Lesson: Look for one simple conversation-worthy thing you could upgrade today.

Is that an infuser teapot in the picture as well?!
    Very nice!

Andy, are you in “Wealth Denial”? http://tinyurl.com/27ymud :)

Nope … I’m in credit card debt denial.
But one of the perks of being a professional speaker is that you get put up at whatever hotel the conference is at. On the other hand, every 5-star St. Regis on the beach is balanced by a Holiday Inn in Dayton.

I would suspect that many hotels would dismiss the idea of putting a french press in rooms as cost-prohibitive — not because of the initial outlay, but because they’d assume that users would either break or steal them. Of course, that violates the customer-company pledge you posted earlier in a big way.
(I think another reason might be that many people have no idea how to use a French press, and using them incorrectly leads to burns and coffee grounds strewn about the room.)

I no longer use any in-room beverage items. The level of clean is always questionable and, of more concern, how the items get cleaned could be dicey:
