Stunts can create instant word of mouth. But they’re often gimmicky and don’t give you any long-term value. Silliness can generate awareness, but that’s rarely meaningful enough to lead to a purchase.
Instead, find a dramatic stunt that includes a direct, relevant connection to what you do.
I LOVE this promo from Virgin America. They sold the Nerd Bird, a charter flight to the Consumer Electronics Show, on Gilt.com. The $49,000 package included round-trip travel for 136, tickets to the show, and a ton of perks.
It’s perfect. It’ll generate a ton of word of mouth for months — from the exact group of influencers that they are targeting.
(Virgin — call me. I want to buy 3 of these for a different event. Seriously.)
