It’s worth it, even if they don’t buy it

Sometimes a great innovation isn’t there to sell the innovation. It’s to restart the conversation about your company. Sort of like the non-existent concept cars that auto companies show off each season.

MOO Cards makes really cool business cards. They are a darling of creative and tech types. (Good proof that you can innovate and build a business in even the most unremarkable industry.)

Now they released NFC Cards: “Embedded in the card is a tiny microchip. When it’s touched to a smartphone, the chip asks the phone to do something. Something you’ve told it to. Perhaps download your portfolio, play music or video, load web pages, maps or apps, save your contact details — the possibilities are endless. Think of it like an enormous, dynamic, and exciting third side.”

The big lesson: It doesn’t matter if anyone every buys or uses these. Because it’s so cool, everyone will be talking about MOO Cards again. (And probably buying regular business cards.)
