Did you hear about the scandal where the employee using social media at work leaked company data and got a virus?

We didn’t either. Because it so rarely happens.

It’s time to take down those barriers to social media at work before your company looks even more ignorant to your customers and more unappealing to future employees.

And if it’s your IT team still arguing for these restrictions, then a) ask them to compare hypothetical risk of social media hacking to real incidents of data hacking; b) ask if they are spending their time wisely or playing power games, and maybe c) replace them.

If the Department of Defense can authorize use of social media at work (back in 2010) — and considers it necessary — then you can too. I’m guessing you have fewer security issues than the USMC.
