I would have bought a $3 bottle of water in my hotel room. Probably two.
But you got greedy and got nothing.
Someone with a spreadsheet told you that you could get away with selling $7 waters.
But no spreadsheet warns you when you’re acting like an ass.
No spreadsheet warns you when your pricing makes a customer feel like a sucker if they buy from you.

I totally agree with you, it’s so true. I don’t understand the business case of most (top) hotels behind their room service strategies. As long as they have prices like this they will never get single dollar from me.

Yeah, I’m lazy when I travel and will pretty much just pay for the overpriced crap in my room. But there’s a point where I’d probably just drink from the bathroom sink, just to “stick it to the man.” $7 water is that point.
Andy:
So true. I saw that exact bottle at the Intercontinental while in Chicago for Supergenious (OUTSTANDING event by the way).
The other one that blew me away was that they charged $17.95 for 24 hours of internet access.
I can’t imagine they make enough from that type of stuff to make up for the bad taste they are leaving in the mouths of the people who stay there.

Andy: $7/bottle definately drives me for the sink…even if they didn’t wash the glass before my visit!
As an interest group of one, let me ask you a question that pops into my head every time I encounter this basic situation: Do outraged (bemused?) guests attribute any of their negative opinion/negative WOM to the water brand? If so, does $7 Deer Park upset you more than $7 Evian.
Always curious and thought it a perfect opportunity to ask another their opinion.
…and don’t forget, this bottle of water was $6.95 “subject to gratuity and local tax.” Probably more like $8.50.
I have yet to make a purchase in my hotel room and am further offended by the price gauging that occurs. Do they honestly think I wont go to the pharmacy/restaurant/mini-mart next door on my way in to grab snacks and drinks?
Lots of reasons NOT to buy bottled water even at $2/bottle:
