Are you missing the easiest way to measure word of mouth?

December 4, 2009

Just ask!  When someone registers on your site or buys from you — are you offering “word of mouth” as an answer to “how did you hear about us?”

Thanks, Andy, for helping us remind this kind of simple tools. I think that we have all these several and different types of tools nowadays that some of us had forgotten what is WOM about. And some marketer (and companies) are performing really bad just because they’ve missed fundamental concepts as yours (with your book).
thanks again! and cheers,

Andy,
This seems so simple to implement and yet why haven’t most of us done so or thought of it in the first place. It would be a great way to determine if your company was heard of by Word of Mouth. As usual, great perspective! Thanks

Sometimes companies just miss the simplest things. I also think that lots of companies should be giving their customers/site visitors better opportunities to give direct feedback, but they don’t because they’re too afraid of negative comments.

Companies may want to choose a different phrase (WOM) is such marketing professional speak. Maybe something like “From a friend”
