Double your value

May 12, 2009

Lunch meat vs. lunch meat + reusable container.

A reusable package turns a simple product into two simple products. Twice the reasons to buy.

What simple thing could you change or add that doubles the perceived value of your product?

I’d add to your value-add packaging example this one:
Pizza Box of the Future
That said, I know you’re looking for something a little more conceptual, and I’m curious to see what other examples are lobbed out by others.

Interesting concept. Personally, the containers would create rather than solve a problem for me since I have plenty already.
If this was the only packaging available from this company, I’d choose a competitor’s product.

I also see this packaging as a problem. It is environmentally unsound to use all of the extra plastic that a container like this requires.
I only choose this product when I’m in a store that has no other options available. Just yesterday I passed on this very item in the store.
Manufacturers need to look beyond the clever and take a long term view of thier product’s impact on the environment. No packaging is perfect. But certainly this packaging is over the top and unnecessary.

It’s interesting that people see the package as wasteful. My take is that it has to be packed in something … so make it reusable instead of the usual throw-away stuff.
