I’ll be spending a night on the USS Nimitz at the end of the month with 15 major bloggers. Scary = we’re flying to the ship mid-ocean, landing on the deck.

You will be treated like VIPs – that is SOP (standard operating procedures) for bringing non military, press, capitol hill onto afloat Navy ship. To get the true story, talk to the enlisted men/women of the ship. Go see where they eat, work, sleep; that will give you a true appreciation of life at sea in the Navy vs. crafted VIP tours of Officer Country, Captains Quarters, the bridge, flight operations. I used to give those tours to congressmen, senators.
Enjoy your time at sea. I spent 7 years with the US Navy, learned a lot, gained greater appreciation for the men and women that sacrafice every day. If you feel sea sick go to center of the ship at the lowest level, you sense less motion at that point of the ship.

Don’t be a hero – take the Dramamine before you fly out. Once you _get_ seasick it’s too late.
And yes, enjoy the trip and the chow and the VIP treatment. If you get a chance to see what life is like for the enlisted, do that as well. I don’t know what enlisted berthing is like on a carrier but aboard an LST we were very cozy.
If the Marines offer you a chance to fire small arms off the fantail, jump at that. Nothing says ‘fun’ like a few hundred rounds of small-arms fire on the government dime.
And it’s not a waste – they have to fire-off the old stuff as they rotate new stocks in.
Did I mention I hate you? Yep, hate you.
I’m so jealous it’s not even funny. I hope to get my title shot for this one day!
