New: Dell’s Social Innovation Competition

February 2, 2009

Announced today:  The Dell Social Innovation Competition.  It's a worthy cause, and a great use of crowdsourcing tools. The deadline is Feb. 20.

"The RGK Center at The University of Texas and Dell are looking for college students worldwide with ingenious ideas to change the world.

Dream up a plan that combines creativity and innovation to tackle a pressing social issue, and you can win $50,000 to put your plan into action!

Students from all over the world are invited to create change at home, or anywhere in the world, with a social innovation designed to tackle a social problem and help every human reach their fullest potential. There is no limit to the imagination and any significant social issue can be addressed in this competition."

This is very interesting, but I couldn’t get a look at any of the ideas without registering, and as a Grown-up (ha, ha) I am not eligible anyway. I wonder why they wouldn’t throw this open to a wider audience?

This is a great way to bring new ideas and innovation to the corporate arena, which after a while can certainly get stale. And a $50,000 reward for an idea that can be worth 100 times that if pulled off successfully certainly isn’t a bad incentive.
Great post, keep up the good work.
