Johnny Bunko Book Give-Away: Free Copy of Daniel Pink's New Book

image I was blown away by the new book Johnny Bunko by Daniel Pink.  It is absolutely the best career advice I've ever seen. It should be required reading for every college freshman and career changer.

I want you to read this book ... so I'm giving away 10 copies.  Daniel was kind enough to send 10 autographed books. Keep reading to find out how to win your copy.

The Adventures of Johnny Bunko is America’s first business book in manga and the last career guide you’ll ever need.

The book, which you can read in an hour, tells the story of Johnny Bunko, a beleaguered Everyman toiling away at the Boggs Corp.
One night Johnny meets Diana, a magical and butt-kicking adviser who teaches Johnny -- and you -- the six lessons of satisfying, productive careers:
  1. There is no plan.
  2. Think strengths, not weaknesses
  3. It’s not about you.
  4. Persistence trumps talent.
  5. Make excellent mistakes
  6. Leave an imprint.

How to win a book: Help spread the word of mouth.

I don't care how you do it, just tell someone about this cool book. To enter the contest, share it!

  1. Blog it, tweet it, or post it on Facebook
  2. Comment here
  3. Use the Tell-a-Friend form below
  4. Anything else you can think of that I can track

I'll pick 10 winners and send them the book.

P.S. Kudos to Daniel for perfect word of mouth execution: blog, twitter, viral video, free excerpts, and live meetups.

I'd just like to say that this book is definitely worth the read. I got wind of it from one of Andy's tweets a couple months ago and picked it up the next day. A quick and easy read that is filled with great career tips that you can immediately start implementing.

Thanks for the post...it looks like an interesting career book- especially for my generation. I posted a blog about it to spread the word to my friends!

Not sure I agree that this is the last career guide you'll ever need. I think history is littered with the last X that people needed.

But it is a very good book and I definitely recommend it.

I also want to give a shout-out to Jeremy Epstein (www.jer979.com) who along with Dan Pink has masterminded this excellent WOM campaign.

This is an exciting book and I've wanted a copy — not for myself, but to gift to my little brother. Could I please win the contest for that very purpose, Andy? I've been in the process of getting him to better understand word of mouth marketing, but he still hasn't dove into the pool-of-share-it-with-a-friend, so a speak.

Note that the "last career guide" isn't Andy's own invention, it comes from the marketing copy of this fun-yet-valuable text. ^_^

Interesting post and looking into the book. What led you to write this post, to share 5 copies of this book?

Is distributed equity (such as giving bloggers free books to give away) something we want to encourage as an industry? Is this a longterm direction social media outreach is heading towards?

I posted these questions and more over at my blog here - http://jburg.typepad.com/future/2008/09/if-you-socialize-will-they-share.html

Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to hearing your perspective, especially as an early mover in establishing industry guidelines and best practices. This is not to say that there is anything unethical taking place when bloggers pass along "distributed brand equity", but I wonder where the lines will be drawn as it comes to advocacy.

I will definitely be taking a look at this one, whether or not I make the "Top 10"! Thanks for mentioning it!

Nice post there, thanks! I was just thinking about a book like this today and as extra bonus, manga style! :)

Andy...
Great recommendation! We started a corporate book club for all interested employees this year. The first book selected to read and blog/chat about with one another was "Johnny Bunko". To cap it all off, we hired Daniel Pink to speak to our employees. He was outstanding.

I just twittered it ... I think more books should be manga'ed. Especially subjects that come across as fairly complex otherwise.

I started in my own business whilst at school in the 60s and love what is happening now.
Have ordered this book for my son, just out of University and in his first job.
PS he has promised to pass it on to his brother who is in his first week at University
Great stuff Andy - we made this a family project!
