Word of mouth for boring stuff

July 25, 2008

Seth Greenberg from Intuit generates amazing word of mouth for an amazingly dull product: TurboTax.

As part of a complete word of mouth program, they did video contents with Vanilla Ice and Jay Mohr.  Consumer response was fantastic, and eager promoter were thrilled to participate.

They got 100,000+ blog posts for tax software.

Why? People want to help other people.  People want to share solutions. People want to have fun.

Most important: This campaign made real money, and each word of mouth post resulted in measurable sales bump.
