Well, mostly likely because signs are cheaper than clocks.
This is why I never use hotel room clocks – I just don’t trust that I’ll get it right, so I set my mobile phone to wake me up, and then ask for a wake-up call for good measure.
They should just put a pretty analog clock on the wall as far as I’m concerned!
*sigh… I have that exact thing on my bedside table. It truly is an adventure whenever the power goes out and I need to reprogram it. I would think less of any hotel that would carry it.
You’re right, but at least they have instructions! How many other hotels would have ignored the problem. Since this apparently comes from the hotel (as opposed to the clock maker), at least someone om staff was on the ball enough to recognize (or respond to) the potential customer service nightmare and address it. The alarm clock in the last place I stayed in Seattle befuddled both me and my wife. Usually, if one of us can’t figure out a piece of tech, the other can, so someone had to go out of their way to design a clock that could thwart both right and left brained attempts to make it work.
I think I’ve been put in that very room with that alarm clock – in the end I gave up on using the alarm clock. I couldn’t even figure out how turn it on. What about the company that engineered the alarm clock – what were they smoking?
What’s even worse is when the hotel doesn’t even have a clock. I’ve been to a couple that didn’t want to ruin the ambiance of the room, and so only offered wake-up calls. Even when I set my own alarm clock, I can’t sleep well at night because I’m so nervous I’ll oversleep.
