Physical objects start conversations.
People see this little award on my shelf and ask me about it. It isn’t a big deal. I got it for writing a single blog post for Chitika. I don’t even remember why I did it.
But the award has generated word of mouth for them for more than a year.
What can you give to people that will trigger long-term conversations?
What can you give that costs less than $5?

I’m facing this exact question right now. We set $5 as a limit we can spend to put something in the hands of 75 attendees at an upcoming social event. Thanks for the reminder that it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, just something that will be a conversation starter.
Interestingly, at Podcamp Toronto last week, my buddy Dave Delaney gave me a cool little piece of swag from Emma, the email marketing company he works for. It made me feel great, and inspired me to post a video on Utterz: http://tinyurl.com/2cofvj and that probably cost them around $5.
