ProFlowers thinks I’m gay

June 27, 2007

If you’re going to personalize your marketing with customer purchase data, do it right or don’t do it at all.

See the attached email I received from ProFlowers asking if I want to send flowers to Keith and Robert.  This would not make my wife happy.

Even worse, last time I send something to Keith was for a bereavement. Not something to repeat, or be used in a promotion. I don’t know who Robert is.

The lesson: When mining your database for promotional purposes, do it very very carefully.

With that said … ProFlowers
is the best flower delivery service there is. Great flowers, well
packaged, with a really nice vase included.  I definitely recommend
them.

Terrific post Andy!
A great reminder to all professional about the issues associated with email and database mining.
